The Spicy Pumpkin

The Spicy Pumpkin

I've made no secret of the fact that I like pumpkin and a quick glance to the right of this page should tell you I definitely like cocktails. So, when the folks at Kahlúa came out with a new Pumpkin Spice flavor and asked if I would sample it and, maybe make a cocktail with it, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a bottle.

The Spicy Pumpkin
It's sweet, warm, aromatic, a little spicy and with the definite flavor of pumpkin. The traditional coffee flavor of Kahlúa is in the background but there's no mistaking the autumnal taste. It was that exact warmth and spice that led me to pair it with bourbon instead of the cooler flavors of vodka or gin. Bourbon is warmth, to me, and it's a perfect match with this liqueur. I added to the spice with a generous dose of cinnamon and added cream to mellow out the bourbon. The result was perfect and very, very easy to drink. Cheers!

Per Serving:
2 oz. Kahlúa Pumpkin Spice
1 oz. Bourbon
2 oz. Half & half or cream
1/4 Teaspoon cinnamon

The Spicy Pumpkin
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake well. Pour into a cocktail glass and top with an additional sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.
