Poison Apple Manhattan Cocktail

Recipe for a bourbon cocktail flavored with sweet vermouth, apple cider and Angostura bitters.

The kids can load up on candy at Halloween but the adults should get a treat as well. OK, this adult also eats all the peanut butter cups. But that doesn't diminish my love for a well made cocktail.

This slightly spooky variation on a classic Manhattan gets points for taste as well as ghoulish fun. We'll leave out the poison, of course, but don't skip the bitters. They add a wonderful flavor note to the spirits and apple cider. If you're serving these for a gathering and want the smoky effect, place the dry ice in containers near the drinks but leave it out of the actual cocktail. It may not be poison but it won't add to the flavor. Cheers!
