Blue Hurricane Cocktail

Recipe for a rum cocktail with orange and blueberry.

The first day of spring arrived, along with cold temperatures and wet snow. Hmm. It was so warm last week. Never mind because this is just the last bit of winter's protest at leaving. The tulips are coming up and the temperatures will rise next week. Let's celebrate.

Recipe for a rum cocktail with orange and blueberry.

Spring weather makes me want a tall, fruity drink. Something garnished with fruit and cherries. Something served in one of those lovely hurricane glasses. OK, a hurricane it is.

A classic hurricane is a rum based cocktail with orange, passion fruit and grenadine or simple sugar syrup. I had plenty of oranges on hand but I swapped out the passion fruit for some plump fresh blueberries instead. Since I was going blue, I used a blue curacao instead of a standard triple sec but the flavor is the same. And now I had a tall, cool, fruity, garnished drink in my lovely hurricane glasses. Welcome spring. Cheers!
