Ardeo Tuscan Tavern

280 Underpass Road, Brewster, MA 02631, 508-896-4200 www.dineardeo.com

On our first night staying in Brewster, we searched for a casual, local place for dinner and came upon the Ardeo Tavern. It was late, we were tired from traveling and craving some comforting food. The dining room was quiet and comfortable and we relaxed into a nice big booth with menus that seemed chock full of comforting favorites such as pizzas, paninis and lots of pastas.

We began with an amazing sounding salad of mixed greens tossed with gorgonzola, fried apple segments, tomatoes and red onion with balsamic dressing, fried onion strings and candied walnuts. It sounded great and tasted great and, along with some interesting cocktails, we were feeling quite happy about our restaurant find.

Unfortunately, we became less happy when the entrees arrived. We chose a dish of chicken tenders sauteed with asparagus tips, sun-dried tomatoes and fresh rosemary tossed in a gorgonzola cream sauce over papardelle pasta. Like the salad, it too sounded heavenly but was actually quite disappointing. The chicken pieces were overly large and unappetizing looking.  The taste was bland and the ingredients in the dish didn't come together to form a cohesive taste. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't delicious comfort food - just fuel.

Ardeo actually has four different locations up and down the Cape but in the future we'll probably avoid all of them.
