Strawberry Red Wine Slushies

I love entertaining. Whether it's an elegant dinner party, holiday gatherings or even just a couple of good friends over for a meal, it all makes me happy. I love planning a menu I think they'll love, getting the table set in a way that's both pretty and still functional and coming up with a special cocktail. I'm definitely all about the cocktail.

Strawberry Red Wine Slushies
I must have inherited the entertaining gene from my parents because they used to throw a lot of dinner parties when I was growing up. And I remember my father taking drink orders and going off to make what everybody wanted. Very elegant but maybe not completely practical. I'm more of a house cocktail in a big pitcher sort of hostess.

For a small dinner, it's easy enough to just serve wine but I wanted to make something a little more special. Not to mention that the weather is seriously hot these days. But some frozen strawberries added a great flavor and tang to the wine and turned it into a wonderful treat.

It needed a little extra sweetness but I've been keeping a bottle of homemade sugar-free simple syrup using Sweet N Low in my fridge all summer. With this zero calorie sweetener, I could make the slushies as sweet as I wanted without adding any extra calories. Good thing, too, because these go down fast and easy. Cheers!

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Ingredients (4 Servings)

  • 1 1/2 Cups red wine

To make the syrup, add the sweetener and water to a pot and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and stir to dissolve the sweetener. Allow to cool for a few minutes.

Make the drinks by adding the frozen strawberries, red wine and skinny syrup to a blender. Puree until smooth, fill with ice and blend until the ice has fully broken down. Pour into chilled wine glasses.

  1. Mmmm excellent recipe. I'm having my own dinner party in the upcoming weeks, so I'll be sure to give this some practice before I serve it to my guests.

this looks like your photo.. did you use this person's slush mix to make this??

    1. Hi Nicole - yes, that is indeed my photo and it is stolen. Thank you so much for alerting me!

  3. The instructions say after blending the frozen fruit, wine and syrup to "fill with ice and blend until the ice has fully broken down". Approximately how much ice should be added to the blender?

    1. Depending on the size of your blender, I would say at least 8 cubes and then check the consistency and see if you want to add more to make slushier.

We'd love to hear from you!
