Vodka Ginger Fizz

Vodka Ginger Fizz

Cocktail inspirations come to me in all kinds of places. Bars, restaurants, farmer's markets and, in this case, the beverage aisle of my supermarket. It was a hot day and a tall bottle of sparkling ginger ale caught my eye. I didn't have any thoughts beyond just pouring it over ice and relaxing but the ginger flavor was so intense that I thought it needed a mixer.

Of course the mixer could have just been water or even a lot more ice but vodka seemed like way more fun. I tried it with a bit of lemon but decided that I liked the stronger kick of lime juice.

If you like your drinks on the stronger side then leave out the simple syrup but I liked the slightly smoother taste from the bit of extra sweetness. You also might not need it if the ginger ale you're using is very sweet, which mine was not. No need to actually muddle the mint into the drink but the extra perfume from a fresh sprig in the drink was exactly the right touch.

This drink was cool and refreshing without being overly sugary or fruity and I liked the bit of ginger heat as a balance. Cheers!

  1. If the choice is water, ice or vodka, I'd go for vodka too! Way more fun indeed. :) I love the sound of this recipe, so refreshing, thank you for sharing!
