Heart Shaped Chocolate Chip Scones
What to make for a romantic breakfast on Valentine's Day? Brian's not a big breakfast eater so he's not interested in the full breakfast-in-bed tray of morning fare. But he does love my scones with a big pot of morning coffee.
Don't have a sweetie to make these for? Make 'em for yourself! And since they smell amazing, maybe put a plate by the window and see if anyone good shows up :) Enjoy!
2 Cups all purpose flour
1/2 Cup sugar plus 1 tablespoon
1 Stick unsalted butter
1/2 Cup buttermilk (I used low fat)
1/4 Cup half and half (I used fat free)
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 Teaspoon vanilla
1 Cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Spoon free-form scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, sprinkle on the remaining tablespoon of sugar and bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes or until lightly golden brown. The dough will be soft and spread on the baking sheet. When done, remove from the oven and cut out heart shapes with a cutter while the scones are still warm. Makes approximately a dozen scones.
