Birthday Wishes from a Grasshopper

Today is my birthday and as I always joke around with my friend Heidi from Young Grasshopper, I am now less young. It's kind of a big birthday to me because it is the last year in a decade that I will miss. And to celebrate, Brian is taking me away for a long weekend. We will stroll on the beach, dine by the water, wander around quaint villages, drink many cocktails and generally spend happy work-free time with each other. I can't think of a nicer way to spend my birthday weekend.

But speaking of cocktails, since I won't be around to post my usual Friday libation, Heidi is here guest posting for me. She's the perfect person to mix me up a celebratory beverage and if you haven't seen her extensive collection of drink and food recipes, you really should head over to Young Grasshopper and have a look around.

And on that note, I'm out of here. Take it away Heidi and I'll see you all on Tuesday!

HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY with Love From Young Grasshopper

"Can you read, Pooh?" Owl asked a little anxiously.
So Owl wrote... and this is what he wrote:
HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY.
Pooh looked on admiringly.
"I'm just saying 'A Happy Birthday'," said Owl carelessly.
"It's a nice long one," said Pooh, very much impressed by it.
"Well, actually, of course, I'm saying 'A Very Happy Birthday with love from Pooh.' Naturally it takes a good deal of pencil to say a long thing like that."  -  A.A. Milne

Luckily I happen to have a good deal of pencil. When my friend Anita from Hungry Couple asked me to guest post her Friday happy hour cocktail because she was taking off for her birthday you can imagine a girl like me's delight!

A birthday!  A cocktail AND a guest post?  WAAAAHOOOOO :)  A trifecta of blogging.

So I started thinking... what drink shall I bring to celebrate Anita turning one year less young...  I wanted champagne involved... and I know she favors vodka (she has a bottle chilling in her freezer right now I'm guessin') and so flipping through my handy dandy barkeep books I found the Midnight Kiss... ohhhhh, sounds oh so cosmopolitan... perfect for my NYC friend's celebration!  And after making it I must say that as dark and sexy as it sounds it really is very bright and festive in person... just like a party girl!  A BIRTHDAY party girl!

WHAT YOU NEED:
1 oz. Vodka (chilled)
6 oz. Brut Champagne
1/4 oz. Blue Curacao
Sugar for the rim of your glass

WHAT YOU DO:
Sugar the rim of your glass (use a champagne flute or martini glass); Pour the chilled vodka into the prepared glass and fill the rest of the glass with champagne.  Top with the Curacao and celebrate.

XXOO Birthday Girl... thanks for inviting me over. :)

  8. Heidi does have a way with a cocktail...I'm not much of a hard alcohol drinker, but did you say champagne? I'm there!
