A Contest, A Cookbook and a Frog Named Ambrose

A Contest, A Cookbook and a Frog Named Ambrose

I have won a frog naming contest. Yes, you read that line correctly. Now, I don't know how many people can claim that honor but I certainly never expected to either enter or win such a contest. Let me explain.

A while back I was reading a post on Picture Perfect Meals and the subject was a delightful pond on Cheryl and Adam's property and the discovery there of a somewhat curmudgeonly looking frog. Cheryl wondered what to name this frog and asked her readers for suggestions. I normally wouldn't bother but for some reason, when she said 'curmudgeonly' the name Ambrose immediately popped into my head and so I suggested it and then thought nothing more about it.

Imagine my surprise when a few weeks later I received an email from Cheryl telling me that they'd studied all the frog name suggestions and Ambrose he was to be. Furthermore, they thanked me for the name by sending me their cookbook as well a a beautiful glossy photo of the newly christened frog.

Being a native Manhattanite, I don't have much experience with frogs but now that I've named him, I feel an attachment to Ambrose and I expect regular reports on how he is doing. Of course, I did make sure that Cheryl gave him a smooch, you know, just to be sure he was all frog. But since Cheryl has already found her prince and so have I, it's just as well. And now I'm off to go try out some of those recipes. Thanks Cheryl and Adam and say hi to Ambrose!

  2. Thanks to you, Anita, for such a regal name! Prince Ambrose is quite smitten with his new title and I'm not sure, but I think he has a new girlfriend. We'll keep you posted...

  3. I love that you got to name the frog--Ambrose seems like an oddly perfect name.

  4. Lucky you!!! I may have to bite the bullet and just buy their cookbook...I'm not nearly as creative as you ;) I think I need to add cheesecake to my resume, too!
