Cantaloupe Melon Martini

Cantaloupe Melon Martini

Have you mastered the art of being able to tell when a melon is ripe? Yeah, me neither. But I have learned that my best chance with melons, and all other fruit, is to go by the smell instead of squeezing the life out of it. So, if it smells like the fruit, it's probably ripe. And I've been walking past some amazingly fragrant melons lately.

My sniff test worked and my melon was sweet, juicy and ripe. I loved the idea of a fresh melon cocktail but my method of cutting it up was one piece for the food processor, one piece for me, one for the processor, etc. So basically, eat, drink, repeat and I highly recommend this method. Cheers!

Prep Time: 7 Minutes
Ingredients (1 Serving)
  • 1 1/2 oz. Vodka
  • 2 oz. Cantaloupe puree
  • 1/2 oz. Lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. Simple syrup
  • 1/4 oz. Melon liqueur
  • 2 Mint leaves
Instructions
To make the puree, peel and chunk about half a cantaloupe melon and blend it in a food processor until smooth. You should have approximately 6 - 8 oz. of puree depending on the size of the melon.

Add the vodka, 2 oz. of the cantaloupe puree, lemon juice, simple syrup, melon liqueur and mint leaves to a cocktail shaker. Muddle the mint with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon. Fill with ice, shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint or a few melon balls, if desired.
