Life in the Big City - Happy Birthday to Me!

Life in the Big City - Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday.  It's one of those 'big" birthdays that causes people to give you cards that say "you're blah, blah years old now" and buy you gag age gifts and arrange for waiters to sing to you in restaurants where waiters shouldn't be singing to you.  I don't know about the cards and gags but I've already warned those closest to me that, if I'm accosted by any musical waiters, they will swiftly find themselves divorced, de-friended and disowned.

We'll be meeting my bestie and her hubs for dinner tonight at a lovely restaurant on the water.  We'll relax, sip cocktails, stuff ourselves with what looks to be a wonderful menu of gourmet food options, enjoy the view and each others company.  I can't imagine a better way to spend my special day than with the man I love and my closest friends.  Unless, of course, waiters begin singing to me.

Speaking of the man I love, he gave me a great gift.  For the benefit of those readers who are male, a woman defines a great gift as getting exactly the item that she wanted to get, whatever that was.  In my case this year, it was a particular lens for my camera.

By the way, as much as I love my gift, and all the other great gifts I've gotten from Brian over the years, it's not the best one.  The bestest, most favorite gift ever arrived 4 years ago and immediately licked my face, wagged its tail and peed on the floor.  I can't imagine life without her.  So long till next time!

  1. Great new lens, Anita! And you are absolutely right. The perfect gift is the one you want. Problem is most folks don't express their wants. I learned a long time ago that men (and humans in general) are bad at mind reading so I try to be gentle with hints but clear enough to be understood. And we are all happy! Hope you have a fabulous evening out, with nary a singing waiter.

  3. Happy Birthday! Sounds like a wonderful birthday and the lens is the cherry on your birthday cake. I have people in my family who don't like singing in public places either - it's best to honor a request like that. Have a great time and enjoy yourselves!
